Cash for Clunkers

Heard about Cash for Clunkers? And how it RAN OUT OF MONEY in one day? Oh by the way, the government added another 2 billion to the program. That sure will keep it up. So, basically, if your car meets the program's specific requirements, the gov will pay you some money to buy a newer, more environmentally friendly car. This means that someone can trade in a gas guzzling truck for ... another truck? Even if that truck is more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, blahblahblah, that new truck is still going to eat up a lot of resources. Wouldn't it be better if the government had rebates for people who wanted to trade average-size cars or large cars for hybrids? Wouldn't that be much better for the environment instead of getting another truck/van? I admit this is a step toward a better future, but I'm sure we could do better. ♥
